Hi! I'm Melissa Koehler! A certified coach, Enneagram trained, podcasting educator! Grab your favorite drink and stay awhile! Learn more about me right over here!
I don’t know about you, but my favorite type of travel is last-minute, spontaneous trips. Don’t get me wrong, I love the planning and preparation that go into week-long adventures, but there is just something about throwing a carry-on together, hopping on a quick flight, and getting away for just a few days. And if you’re really like me, I know what you’re thinking. How do you not stress out about last-minute packing? But girl, I’ve learned some tricks over the years and I’m here to share my top 6 ways to help you pack light for a quick trip.
This is especially helpful when it’s spontaneous. Having these 6 items on hand will not only help you pack light and stay organized, but they will also make it really easy to grab your things and go without forgetting the essentials!
I have been using this method for packing for the past few years. It has saved me so much time stressing over what to pack, how to pack, and making sure I packed the right things. I simply start my packing routine by grabbing these 6 items and filling them one by one. Before I know it, I’m all packed (without over-packing) and ready to go!
I recently took a quick trip to see the one and only Ed Sheeran and packing was a breeze. It was so easy I even had time to turn my time packing into a reel. And if you know me well, you know how much creating reels stresses me out so it’s just proof that I’ve really gotten this packing thing down, haha.
So do you want to know my secrets?
If you are not using packing cubes when packing for any trip, you are working too hard. I love to use these for the whole family. They help keep everyone’s clothes neat and organized, not to mention keep our luggage compact and light.
2. Travel bag with hanging hook
Have you seen these bags? They are life! They have such a large capacity with multiple compartments that fold up into one compact bag with a hook to hang over the door. I love to use these for my make-up and hygiene products. Pack everything neatly in each compartment and then never have to unpack it when you get to your destination. Simply open it up and hang it in the bathroom for easy use.
I used to be so bad at keeping up with my daily supplements when traveling and it always left me feeling less than stellar. And who doesn’t want to feel their best when traveling? Once I started bringing my supplements in a travel pill organizer, I started keeping up with my supplement regimen. And trust me, everyone is happier when I have the nutrients I need! I love using these to help save space and not have to lug around bottles of supplements that just take up space that I could save for another cute pair of shoes.
Don’t want to splurge on a pill organizer? Simply grab little Ziploc baggies and throw your supplements for each day in their own bag.
I love being able to accessorize on vacation but found myself not wanting to pack my jewelry to have it get tangled or lost. And because bringing the whole jewelry box isn’t an option, I grabbed a mini travel jewelry case and now get to bring my favorite items on any trip! They are basically mini jewelry boxes that help keep your jewelry neat and organized without taking up a lot of space. It’s a total win, win.
5. Travel bottles for toiletries
Want to know the best way to take up too much space in your suitcase? Pack full bottles of toiletries. And if you’re trying to pack light so you only have to travel with a carry-on, you can’t take those big bottles on your flight. Insert travel bottle for toiletries. I love using these to help pack light and compact and I even found something cooler than a disposable travel bottle. You are absolutely going to want to check out what I found!
6. Diffuser without decorative lid
If you are an essential oil user, you don’t like traveling without your oils. But bringing a diffuser can take up a lot of space in your suitcase. This is exactly why I stopped packing the lid. It’s sole purpose is to offer decoration to your home and that’s something we don’t need for a few nights in a hotel. Simply ditch the lid without having to go without the benefits of diffusing!
These 6 tips are super helpful for packing for any trip, but especially helpful when you need to pack quickly without bringing too many bags. I used to be the kind of person who wanted to pack everything but the kitchen sink, but having these 6 things on hand has really helped me to prioritize what I need without packing the things I’ll never use.
If you find yourself overpacking or feeling stressed by the process of packing for a trip, use these 6 ways to help you pack light for a quick trip. And maybe, just maybe, start to enjoy the process!
I hope this helps you start packing with ease and encourages you to just take the trip already! You’ll never regret the time you spend traveling!
