“The secret to the magic you’re looking for is in the work you aren’t doing.” 

It truly is that simple.

But there’s good news. 

My husband recently sent me a video from one of our former pastors in San Diego, Miles McPherson, and I can’t stop thinking about what he said. 

He essentially said that you must get out of your comfort zone for big things to happen. And I know that’s not something you’ve never heard before, but it was exactly what I needed to hear in this season of life. 

And sometimes just hearing something is all the motivation we need to change it. When I first heard him say that the things I want out of life are in the things I’m not doing it was a total slap in the face. In a good way. It was the kick in my pants that I needed to start doing something I’ve never done to get something I’ve never had.

As I work to build a business helping other women build businesses, I have become frustrated with relying on the social media algorithm’s rules to help me grow. I do all of the “right” things, take all the popular courses, and follow the latest trends, but I still feel stuck. 

But you know what I’m not doing? The things that make me uncomfortable. Sharing my life with you. Giving you a closer look at who I truly am. I know that I don’t need to share every piece of myself, but I am discovering that being so private hasn’t served me well in many areas of my life. 

I’ve missed out on so many great relationships with people because of the things I don’t want to do. 

So what am I going to do about it?

Things I’ve never done before.

 

THE SECRET TO THE MAGIC YOU’RE LOOKING FOR…

is in the work you aren’t doing.

So here’s what I’m doing:

1. Showing up online consistently.

Every day. In my stories, writing posts, and making reels. I have never been good at staying consistent but I know I need to show up more in order to grow.

2. Sharing more of my personal life.

Look, I’m never going to share the nitty, gritty, but I do want to share a closer look at my day-to-day life. I can’t expect to build relationships with people who don’t even know me.

3. Finding a hobby.

I know this one sounds weird, but for too many years I have made my work my identity. And in this season of growth, I want to build my business without losing myself. Finding a new hobby of something I truly enjoy feels like a great place to start.

The bottom line: I want to be more real. Real life. Real struggles. Real victories. And I want to share it all with you.

I’m not saying we should all start sharing the deepest, darkest, most sacred parts of ourselves, but I am suggesting that in order to grow, we need to be willing to do things we’ve never done before. 

For me, that means showing up here and sharing more of who I am to help build deeper, more impactful relationships, not just checking a box on a “how to do social media” guide.
