For many of us, Spring Break is upon us and while it’s such an exciting time of year, it can also be a little stressful. With kids home from school, running your business and keeping up with your job as an entrepreneur can become a tad overwhelming. But this year, I want you to ditch the overwhelm and experience a stress-free spring break!
Together, let’s take this season by the horns and enjoy this extra time with our children without feeling like our business has to suffer. You can be both mom and entrepreneur and I’m going to help you do both with joy!
It’s all here inside my 5 step guide to a stress free spring break!
1. Meal plan for the week.
I get it. Meal planning can feel like a lot of work on the front end. But when your kids start asking you, “what’s for dinner?” on repeat, having a plan and knowing how to answer will save you a ton of stress.
And to ensure your kids are pleased with the menu, let them do the leg work by suggesting the meals themselves. I have three kids plus myself and my husband. Each week, we each pick a meal for the week, giving me 5 options without taking on the burden of doing it on my own. The other 2 days are reserved for leftovers or takeout and everyone is happy. It’s a win win.
We meal plan all year long, but if it feels intimidating, start small. Create a meal plan for the week of Spring Break and go from there. If it works for your family, awesome! If it doesn’t, toss it out and forget about it!
2. Set up a snack station.
If you’re a mom you know that kids are always starving. And if you’re trying to work from home while you’re kids are home on Spring Break, you’ll never get anything done between all the begging for food.
This is why I set up a snack station. I fill a basket with my kids favorite snacks and drinks and sit it on the counter for easy access. Anytime the hunger strikes, they know to head to the snack station without coming to me. They get to enjoy the independence of helping themselves and I don’t have to pause my work just to play snack maid.
3. Diffuse “happy” oils.
Set up a diffuser in your home’s common area and diffuse non-stop. Choose uplifting, energizing oils like Orange and Peppermint to boost everyone’s mood and encourage happy emotions.
There is no time for grumpy children when they’re “bored” and “stuck” at home ALLLLLLL week long. Hahaha, can you tell I have pre-teens and teenagers in my home?
4. Limit or eliminate screen time.
I know it feels so tempting to give your kids a free pass to spend Spring Break on their electronic devices. You have work piling up and you just need them to be entertained and distracted. But, believe it or not, the more screentime we give our children, the worse their behavior becomes. And we’re trying to have a stress-free Spring Break, remember?
So what can you offer them instead?
5. Plan fun events or activities.
Plan ahead and schedule a week of fun for your kids. Make time to head to the park. Invite friends over to play. Grab a few new toys or craft supplies. Make special a special breakfast or have a picnic lunch. It doesn’t have to be grand or cause extra work on your part, but be sure to set up a few special events or activities throughout the week. This will help cut the boredom and limit unnecessary screen time.
Enjoy this time with your children, mamas. They are only little once. And while the thought of trying to keep up with life and business without the few hours they’re typically in school can feel a little stressful, just know you can handle it all! Use this time to take a break, enjoy your children, and show them how you can be successful at raising children and running businesses all at the same time!
We’ve got this! I’m rooting for you!
