Do you struggle with feeling overwhelmed simply because there seems to always be so much on your plate? I know I do. As a mom and an entrepreneur, I usually feel like I can never keep up. And do you want to know what my biggest stressor used to be? Feeding my family. I know it sounds so silly, but with everything moms are expected to juggle, the one thing I couldn’t keep up with was food. Until I got smart and created a list of my top 10 favorite breakfast and lunch options for kids!
And I can promise you, my kids are served these top 10 things on a weekly basis because I simply do not have the time or energy to be creative when it comes to food! And that’s okay! Give yourself permission to make a list of your family’s top 10 favorite foods and serve them on repeat!
But for the love of everything, keep it simple. I know the world is full of noise making you believe you have to be the best Pinterest mom on the block, but that simply isn’t true. Our children don’t need color coding and food in funny shapes. They need a mom that feels sane and calm and full of joy. So if curating an aesthetically pleasing life both on and off of social media brings you the most joy, chase after that. But if it fills you with stress and anxiety, just keep it simple and know that’s more than enough.
And if creating your own list of breakfast and lunch options still feels overwhelming, just take mine!
1. Eggs and Bacon – don’t worry, you can cook these easily in the oven!
2. Mini Pancakes – don’t sleep on premade option from Trader Joe’s
3. Chicken Sausage and Eggs – again, the oven is your friend!
4. Cereal – NEVER underestimate the power of a bowl of cereal. So easy and kids love it!
5. Banana Muffins – make these ahead of time, freeze them, and take them out the night before!
6. Breakfast Sandwiches – be sure to check out my podcast episode on how to make these (link to ep. 95)
*Pro tip: I make breakfast for the whole week ahead of time. And I know what you’re thinking, that sounds like too much work. But I promise you, it has simplified so much for my family.
7. Sandwiches – grab some meat and cheese and you’re good to go!
8. Salami and Cheese – my kids love this! Think lunchables, but homemade!
9. Frozen Mini Tacos from Trader Joe’s – seriously, if you’re not using the freezer section at the grocery store as your friend, you’re working too hard!
10. Fruit – grab some yogurt and granola, top it with fruit and your kids can build their own parfait!
And whatever you do, don’t forget the power of leftovers! I know not every kid is a huge fan of leftovers, but one of our favorite things to do here is to serve last night’s dinner for lunch leftovers. You can mix it up just a bit to make it more interesting (like turning dinner tacos into lunch burritos) or simply pack up dinner in to-go containers and put them right into the lunch boxes for the morning.
However you feed your children, I hope it isn’t something that causes you a ton of stress. Because I’ve been there. Feeling like I had to serve 3 grand meals a day and meet the dietary desires of every single child. And let me tell you, that got exhausting fast. But once I created a system for how to feed my kids quickly and easily, all of that stress has gone out the window.
