If you’re like a good portion of the country, your kid’s school’s are being shut down until further notice and if you’re anything like me, your first thought was, “what the heck am I supposed to do with this news?”
I love my kids and I’m happy to have them home safe with me, don’t get me wrong, but have you spent any amount of time trapped inside with a teenager, a tween, and a sweet, but sassy six-year-old? You have to be prepared for this kind of triage!
Do you have a gameplan? As mothers, we have to stick together. Share our secrets!
So here’s my gameplan:
- Keeping the kitchen stocked with all the healthy snacks. Do you think they beg their teachers for food as often as they beg me?
- Pulling out some good books for each of my kids and starting the day with a little reading. We can’t let these brains go to total mush, right?
- Pinning all of the home Science experiments on Pinterest. I know, call me crazy.
- Pulling up some “how to draw” videos on You-tube. Drawing makes everyone happy and quiet. At least that’s what I’m telling myself.
- Planning to play a few virtual reality games. Surely this will kill a few hours.
- Letting the kids get a bit of screen-time to keep spirits high.
- Filling my diffusers with all of the calming oils I can find. Let’s keep these sibling quarrels to a minimum, please!
- Handing out all the immune-boosting goodness that we already use on a daily basis. Ain’t nobody got time for sick kids, am I right?
- Instituting nap time. Okay yeah, this one isn’t going to happen, but a mom can dream, can’t she?
My number one goal is to keep everyone happy and healthy, but it never hurts to be prepared! But please, don’t stress yourselves out mommas! Don’t feel like you have to become the Pinterest mom of the year, just be present and try to enjoy this time at home with your family. As much as we joke, it really is a gift to have this extra time with them!
And if you’re trapped at home without kids, god bless you. I see you and I secretly want to be you, even just for five minutes. Enjoy that peace and calm!
