“What do I need to have set up in order to jumpstart my business?”

It’s something I get asked all of the time and it really is a great question. In the beginning, you’re so busy, you don’t want to be spending your time and energy on things that simply aren’t needed. So let’s look at the bare-bone basics for building a business. 

In my years of experience, I have discovered just five crucial things needed in order to get your business up and running. 

 

A business license. 

As boring as it sounds, you’ve got to have it. Connect with an attorney in your state and get yourself set up with a license and all of the other legal requirements that come with owning a business.  

 

A URL and website. 

Create a URL, purchase a domain, and get yourself set up with an online space. This may be something that you need to hire out if you don’t feel skilled in web design, but you want to have it all set up and ready to go before you ever announce your new business to the public. 

 

A business email. 

Create an email address with the name of your business rather than directing clients to your personal email account. You want to do this in order to create a professional space for people to contact you.

 

A logo and branding.

This may be something else that you will need to hire out, but spend some time creating a logo with branding to match. In order to create the perfect brand, you will need to spend time thinking about your target audience and the things they would want to see in your brand. Put yourself in their shoes and create it specifically for them.

 

Get A CPA. 

Even if you feel skilled in this arena, I highly recommend you hire a professional to help you manage the money side of your business. There are so many ends and outs in the financial world that it can never hurt to have a trained set of eyes on the numbers! 

 

That’s it! Truly! To start something new online, these five things will get you on the ground running! 

Once you have all of those things in place, you’ll want to create systems for how, where, and when you’ll work. Setting up an office in your home and creating working hours is the best thing you can begin to implement. This will help you stay focused, organized, and consistent in your work.

As your business grows there will be more things needed to accommodate that growth. But, in the beginning, save your time and energy and focus all of your efforts here. Use these five simple things to give you a clear vision and direction. Then sit back and enjoy the growth that comes with it!
