Time. The one thing that everyone wants more of. Let’s talk about scheduling your time for success
Yet we’re all given the same 86,400 seconds in a day. While you can’t get any extra time added to your day, you can learn to better utilize that time to set you up for success in your business. Keep reading how you can start Scheduling Your Time for Success!
I call it my “Take 20 “ approach.
I was introduced to the concept of time blocking about 11 years ago by The Fly Lady. Have you heard of her? I wanted to organize my home life better and so I started using the strategies taught by The Fly Lady and I absolutely loved them!
And then one day it hit me, I could implement these same strategies into my business as well and now that is what I do to help me stay on task and get things done. It seems simple enough but actually implementing it and sticking to it is what can be tricky.
So what exactly is the “Take 20” approach?
It’s honestly so simple and will lead you to success each and every time.
That’s it. That’s the entire approach.
At first, this might seem silly or even difficult to do because you feel like there is no way this is helping you become more productive. But I promise you that when you start doing this more consistently it will become a game you play with yourself to see if you can beat the clock with productivity.
Once the timer goes off, stop what you’re doing and take a moment to decide what you’ll do next. Will you walk away from that task for the day or will you set another 20-minute timer and keep working? The choice is yours and there isn’t a right or wrong answer.
I have gotten more things done in these 20-minute time blocks when I stick to the timer without distractions and it feels SO good to check things off my never-ending list of tasks and to-dos.
When you have a lot of things on your plate, oftentimes the overwhelm of where to start is what stops you from even starting. Have you been there? I know I have more times than I want to admit. But when you know that you have 20 minutes to really give that task your all, you are focused and determined to get it done. And then when it is done you’ll feel really good about yourself and your ability to run your business well.

If you don’t know what you need to be working on, spending 20 minutes on “something” is actually not productive. Don’t fall into that trap of thinking that if you’re doing something you are being productive. If you aren’t doing things that make a difference in the outcome of your business you are simply wasting time.
Do you know what those things are?
If you aren’t sure let’s work backward and start with Sales.
What constitutes a sale for your business? How do you get that sale?
Write out the answers to these two questions as those answers will help you get a good idea of how to focus your time. If you’re ever stuck, think about the things that make you money and go from there.
Another good place to start is follow-up. What do you do after someone has purchased from you? You are the CEO of your business so I want you to take some time and write down all of the things that make you money and that are important to your brand. From there, take these tasks and build yourself a schedule for your day.
When you have that list you can now make a schedule that helps you know what to be working on daily. It’s highly likely that every day will be different and that’s ok! That’s one thing we love about entrepreneurship, right?
Maybe one day is spent producing products, another day is spent fulfilling orders, and another day is spent writing your monthly content for newsletters and social media. Whatever it is, fill your calendar with the things that are most important and spend your time doing them.
